REVIEW - KRISTIN ESS SCALP DETOXIFICATION BUBBLE MASK

Updated: Jun 7, 2022

My hair has been a mess lately. There have been a myriad of things that could be causing this; B12 deficiency, shampoo no longer suits, had the flu, slept with a humidifier for

a week, stress, bad shampoo cycle... the list is endless.

I got sucked in to buying the Kristin Ess Scalp Detoxification Bubble Mask while I was wandering around my local Priceline after having my flu shot (have y'all had your flu shot yet? It's free for the month of June!). I had recently ordered some new shampoo/conditioner and thought this might just solve all my problems while I wait for the shampoo to arrive.

The instructions say to use a golf ball size amount of the foam and massage into your scalp. I have quite long fine hair, but a lot of it. I definitely had to use like three or four "golf ball" size portions to cover my entire scalp. I don't know if that is user error or an issue with the product. It comes out as an extremely cold, rigid foam - kind of like a really stiff meringue. It crunches into your hair and almost completely disappears. However, you can feel the product as you massage it in, making it easy to gauge how much of your scalp is covered.

Next, you just leave it in your hair until it stops "bubbling", with instructions say this will last anywhere from one to three minutes. I was surprised at how much fizzing I could hear! It's kind of like having your head in a glass of soda water. It did create a tingly feeling, but I did start to get concerned when it began to burn around my left temple. Turns out I had a broken pimple deep into my hair line (I have had a M A J O R break out recently - a story for another time).

Once the bubbling sounds subsided I was able to shower and wash my hair following my usual routine. I have been using Function of Beauty Custom Shampoo and Conditioner, washing twice then conditioning. I blow dried my hair straight and went to bed as I would any night.

The next morning my hair looked incredible! It had volume and wasn't greasy at all! It took a good twenty four hours before my hair started to look greasy, whereas of late I have been waking up with greasy hair. However, after the second night of sleeping on my hair it was back to looking dirty.

If you have an oily scalp, use a lot of product or dry shampoo I would definitely recommend. I do think you won't get a lot of washes out of a single can. I also read that it may have been discontinued? Grab some while you can! I got mine for $8 at Priceline. I cant find it on the Priceline website, but it is available from Chemist Warehouse for $16.99.
